Virtue Value Experience #1

Read the following and write your thoughts in your journal about the promised blessings of being sexually clean and pure and your commitment to be chaste.

Moroni 9:9, Jacob 2:28, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” and “Sexual Purity” in For the Strength of Youth. Also read Article of Faith number thirteen and Proverbs 31:10–31.

First things First

After reading the “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” I was reminded how vital it is to understand and gain a testimony that I am a beloved daughter of Heavenly Parents.  I have a divine nature and destiny.  I am of worth.

If we can internalize this principle and know we are cherished and valued by our Heavenly Parents we can stand tall and independent of the world.  What great inner strength we will have if we believe and know this principle to be true.

Looking back after raising three daughters, I wish I had spent more time helping them understand their worth.  I believe this is such a vital concept for each and every daughter of God to have a knowledge of who they truly are.  Then they will be fortified to stand against anyone or anything that attempts to derail their virtue.

How can we learn this truth and teach our daughters, young women, and all women?

  • Read and Ponder the Family Proclamation
  • Pray and ask for a witness that you are a daughter of God.
  • Be obedient and live worthy of the Lord’s spirit.

Please share with us your ideas.

Also check this week for posts with my daughter’s insightful comments.

Promised Blessings of being virtuous:

You will receive so many personal blessings by being virtuous.  You will have self worth, confidence, and you will be clean inside.  By choosing to remain virtuous you will be worthy to have the spirit guide you and comfort you.

Your future and current marriage and family will be strengthened, protected and preserved.  By remaining virtuous you will be more faithful and committed to each other.  Your marriage will be stronger and you will have greater trust.  It will bring greater unity and oneness within your marriage and with the Lord.  You will be blessed with power and strength to overcome temptations in your life.

When I read Proverbs 31:10-31 I was amazed at the qualities of a virtuous woman.  I thought of the many virtuous women I have met over the years.  And, yes they have many of these qualities.  When I was young I would compare myself to them and felt I always came up short.  But, as I matured I began to admire the qualities and made goals to obtain or improve a characteristic.  It was a change of attitude!

Here is a list of some of the characteristics or actions of a virtuous woman:

Valuable, trustworthy, does good, good works, and serves others.  Has strength, is faithful and strong.  Shines light and her oil doesn’t run out.  Prepared, beautifies and worthy.  Honor, wisdom, kind and called blessed.

Note: We will be posting about the next Value Experience in a couple of weeks.

2. Virtuous living “at all times and in all things, and in

all places” qualifies you for the constant companionship

of the Holy Ghost. When you are baptized and

confirmed, you are given the gift of the Holy Ghost

to guide all aspects of your life. Since the Holy Ghost

does not dwell in unclean tabernacles, living a virtuous

life is a prerequisite to having the companionship

of the Holy Ghost and receiving the blessings

of temple ordinances. Read the following scripture

references, and identify the promised blessings: John

14:26–27; John 15:26; 2 Nephi 32:1–5; D&C 45:57–59;

D&C 88:3–4; and D&C 121:45–46. In your journal,

record what you have learned, and write about a

time when you felt the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
